A static display of the F-84F Thunderstreak rests at the 179th Airlift Wing. This nostalgic display takes aircraft enthusiasts back to the beginning of the jet age and from 1962 – 1972 the 179th Tactical Fighter Group was tasked with a tactical fighter-bomber mission to augment Tactical Air Command. The USAF Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team even flew the F-84F Thunderstreak in 1955 for their air shows. The Ohio Air National Guard unit has a proud aviation heritage and with this American-built swept-wing turbojet fighter-bomber we get to peek back in time at our proud Air Force history.
