Rila Monastery, an important spiritual & literary center of Bulgaria

The Monastery of Saint John of Rila, also known as Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It is situated in the southwestern Rila Mountains. The place is the most important spiritual and literary center of the Bulgarian national revival, with an uninterrupted history from the Middle Ages until present times. In 1983 , this place was declared as a 'UNESCO World Heritage Site'.
