Last week during the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct, The Duskbloods was revealed with a slick, vampiric trailer. FromSoftware’s new game is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, and it looks a whole lot like Bloodborne, but unfortunately, fans hoping for another action-RPG soulsborne, FromSoft’s next project is a multiplayer-only PvPvE game, where 8 players fight each other to decide a winner, while also dealing with various NPCs and bosses on the map. It feels a little bit like a monkey paw wish granted to anyone hoping for Bloodborne 2 or a remaster of the original PS4 game, but on the bright side, it’s something new and different, and FromSoftware studio head and Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Elden Ring creator Hidetaka Miyazaki is overseeing The Duskbloods. In addition to being a ridiculously talented game designer, Miyazaki is also very open about the fact that he generally doesn’t like PvP games, so he’s designing one for people like himself. How will this pan out? We have some ideas, but at the same time, part of what’s so exciting about this new project is that it’s something completely new and different. SoulsBorne fans might have been disappointed by the co-op multiplayer roguelike spin on Elden Ring that Nightreign showed during its recent network test, but after the amount of time players have spent with Elden Ring, it’s understandable that the reaction would be so-so to a game creatively repurposing a bunch of familiar systems and elements. The Duskbloods, for better or worse, will not be anything like that. And if it’s a mess, rest assured that FromSoftware has not given up on making single-player games.
