Some, like Albania and Hungary, lost large portions of their land through wars and treaties - such as the Treaty of Trianon, in Hungary's case. While others, like Andorra and Iceland, have always remained the same size. Not to mention the large examples of the old Swedish Empire, or Norway's medieval Kingdom that reached into northern Scotland.
