Testing 3 Rifle Rounds with Caldwell Chronograph

45K views Jan 18, 2022

We tested 3 different rifle rounds using the Caldwell Chronograph G2. Rounds tested were the .223, .300BLK - one factory and one hand load, and 6.5 Creedmoor. The .223 was fired through a Ruger AR556. A custom built AR-15 was used for testing the .300BLK and a Ruger American Predator was used for the 6.5 Creedmoor testing. All tests used a five shot group. The chronograph was set up 10 feet in front of the shooting bench with the target set at about 25 yards downrange. The temperature was in the mid-80's with a light breeze and the sky was partly cloudy. The fastest round was the .223 with an average velocity of 3482 fps. The 6.5 Creedmoor averaged 2589 fps over the five shot group. The .300BLK was the slowest coming in at 1846 fps for the factory ammo and 1757 fps for the hand loads. The hand loads were slower because I used the lowest powder charge for the bullet weight when I developed the rounds. We show the results of the testing on screen and show you how the accompanying app works. Double Eagle Gunworks LLC is proud to announce we are now an officially licensed FFL dealer.
