What you should know about UK unemployment rate and wage growth
UK unemployment remained steady over the last three months as wage growth surged over the quarter to October. Unemployment was unchanged at 4.3 per cent for the second straight month during October, data from the Office for National Statistics revealed. The number of people claiming jobless benefits climbed by just 300 in November, beating the 28,200 jump expected by analysts. This compared to a 10,900 fall in October. However, average earnings excluding bonuses spiked by 5.2 per cent in the three months to October, compared to a 4.9 per cent rise in September and above market expectations of five per cent.
