When will King Charles' face replace Queen Elizabeth on UK currency?
Is the UK saying goodbye to banknotes with Queen Elizabeth's face on it? Banknotes carrying a portrait of King Charles III will be issued for the first time on 5 June this year. The portrait of the King will appear on existing designs of all four banknotes, from the £5 to the £50 note, with no other changes to the existing designs. Banknotes that feature the portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II will still be legal, and will still be in use alongside King Charles’s notes. The new banknotes will only be printed to replace those that are worn out and to meet any overall increase in demand for banknotes.
